Specialist equipment, experience, and a commitment to clinical teaching is why so many good doctors choose to practice at Capalaba Medical Centre

Dr Taylan Gurgenci

SUPPORTIVE CARE SPECIALIST & GENERAL PRACTITIONER
ABOUT ME

I work as both a hospital subspecialist (Mater public and private) and a GP, and you’re welcome to see me in either role at Capalaba Medical Centre.

My hospital specialty is Supportive Care, where I look after medically complex adult patients—people with advanced cancer, organ failure (heart, lung, liver, kidney), dementia and similar conditions. My goal is always to keep you well and at home wherever possible.

In general practice, my interests include cancer survivorship, caring for patients undergoing cancer treatment, men’s health, longevity, complex adult medicine, and looking after kids.

If your situation is better suited to a referred Supportive Care appointment, I’ll let you know. This simply changes how Medicare remunerates the complex work involved—there’s no need to organise a referral beforehand unless I ask.

Because of the demands of my subspecialist practice, I no longer offer skin checks or contraception procedures (Implanon or Mirena insertions).

ABOUT FEES

Fee transparency is important to me.
My fees are lower than many Brisbane hospital subspecialists, but slightly higher than some other GPs because I often look after very complex patients.

Note that these all apply to booked appointments. Walk-ins may incur a higher fee. These are current as of 27th of November, 2025.

Adult (16 years or older) General Practice appointments

Monday - Saturday

For most straightforward appointments, you'll pay $50–70 out-of-pocket after your Medicare rebate.
If things turn out to be more involved and we need extra time to sort them properly, the fee will be higher (see below) —but I'll let you know if that's the case.

12–15 mins – $94.00 ($43.90 rebate = $50.10 OOP)
15–19 mins – $114.00 ($43.90 rebate = $70.10 OOP)
20–25 mins – $155.00 ($84.90 rebate = $70.10 OOP)
25–30 mins – $175.00 ($84.90 rebate = $90.10 OOP)
30–35 mins – $195.00 ($84.90 rebate = $110.10 OOP)
35–39 mins – $215.00 ($84.90 rebate = $130.10 OOP)
More than 40 mins – $276.00 ($125.10 rebate = $150.90 OOP)

GP Mental health Care Plan - $197.00 ($106.20 rebate = $90.80 OOP)
Chronic Disease Management Plan - $187.00 ($156.55 rebate = $20.45 OOP)
-–> Note that the OOP is lower here as Medicare rewards complex care with these plans. Unfortunately, we are only allowed to do/review this plan once every 3 months.
