Contraception

Contraception over the past decade has undergone many revolutionary changes. There is much more to it than “I’ll just go on the pill”. There are so many different choices in hormonal contraception (the Pill, the Rod, IUD’s & Mirena) which can also be tailored to help control peripheral conditions such as mood swings, acne, weight gain, heavy periods, endometriosis, risk of blood clots etc . The choices for contraception are varied and need to be matched to each patient’s specific situation.

The failure rate of contraception is very low, but depends on the user adhering to medical advice – remembering to take the pill regularly, using condoms etc.

For a while now, Australians are moving toward what we sometimes refer to as ‘set and forget’ contraception. This includes implantable hormonal rods and intrauterine devices (IUD’s and Mirenas). The doctors here will advise and give you the most appropriate contraception for your needs.

Many of the Doctors consulting at CMC have procedural training and regularly insert various long-term (3-5years) contraceptives where appropriate.
